“to stop bleeding if you accidentally cut a nail too short”.

Active outdoor dogs, particularly those that do a lot of walking on hard surfaces, will not need their nails clipped very often. Even active outdoor dogs will need their dewclaw trimmed occasionally. (That’s the claw at the bottom of the leg that doesn’t come in contact with the ground).
